Hyperlocal News is news that focuses strictly on a small area. I think these types of writing can be beneficial because they show details of a specific situation, in a smaller concept. On the Columbia Journalism Review I read about a student from the Savannah College of Art and Design. A story that simple wouldn’t be found anywhere else on a major news website. As a high school yearbook student we were taught to not lean towards the popular kids, but the kids who weren’t as well known so that when people got their book they could read about their classmates who didn’t stand out as much. I think that’s what these types of stories do as well, point out the things we wouldn’t regularly associate ourselves with.
